Leading edge computing: AI machine vision Innovator Award

I’m beyond excited to announce that a Vision Systems Design Innovators Award was presented to ADLINK in 2021 for our NEON-2000-JNX AI machine vision smart camera, recognizing us as leaders in the AI machine vision industry for the 3rd year in a row. The Vision Systems Design (VSD) Innovators award recognizes advancement within machine vision and integrated vision systems. My favorite part about the NEON-2000 series is the pre-installed development environment. The NEON-2000 series’ rich software framework and tools ease development, integration and deployment in any industrial setting. The software framework allows running containerized applications for multiple use cases ranging from inspection, object detection and classification to navigation. It has cloud connectivity for scalability, real time updates and alerts. 

The NEON-2000-JNX’s compact design is solidly built to withstand EMC, ESD, thermal, physical vibration, shock and drops, or impact. And the small form factor, and power-efficient NVIDIA Jetson module opens the door for embedded, edge computing and computer vision applications that demand increased performance to support AI and complex workloads, but are constrained by size, weight, power budget or cost.

For example:  

A manufacturing robot may be exposed to heat from freshly welded parts that it must chip slag away from. This robot may experience deformation in its joints near the striking tool actuator. Over time, an overheated mechanical joint tends to lose lubricant viscosity and experience increased friction as a result of factors such as thermal expansion.   

The NEON-2000-JNX prevents a total failure using machine vision by signaling issues, such as impairments in machine movement while carrying out routine tasks. Further, ADLINK solutions provide an opportunity to automate tasks that formerly required human intervention, allowing workers to upskill. 

I’m honored to say that my colleagues and I are working to resolve production restrictions that have come from traditional systems, such as light curtains, that are used to prevent robot and machine-related hazards as well.

Two recent applications have shown that AI smart cameras can prevent worker injuries, reduce the physical footprint of safety systems, and enable safe machine-to-machine communication and collaboration.  

The first example is First-tier EMS Manufacturers in Taiwan.  

  • Traditional light curtains prevent Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) from collaborating with robotic implementations, such as an automated robot arm with grasping capabilities. The result is massive lost productivity potential.  

The second example applies AI smart cameras to enhance worker safety for cargo tank HazMat offloading at a semiconductor factory.  

  • There are many components used in semiconductor production that pose health risks for direct human exposure, especially in large quantities. Photoreactive materials, toxic gases, organic solvents, and other components must be handled safely.
